Kieran Gibbs

Following the departure of Gael Clichy, Kieran was handed the chance to make the left-back berth his own last season amid stiff competition from Andre Santos.
It was a challenge he seemed to relish until injury struck in mid-October, and he spent fourth months on the sidelines. It was particularly frustrating as prior to that he had claimed his first-ever goal for the Club, in the Carling Cup third-round victory against Shrewsbury, and delivered a series of highly-encouraging displays that had prompted whispers of a possible England call-up.

Squad Number:28
Previous Club(s)Wimbledon, Norwich City (loan)
Arsenal DebutOctober 31, 2007
Kieran returned to full fitness just in time to play his part in Arsenal’s six-game winning run during February and March, scoring his first-ever Premier League goal in the 3-0 victory against Aston Villa in the process. Perhaps his most important contribution, however, came in the final match of the season when his last-ditch tackle denied West Brom a late equaliser that could have denied the Gunners Champions League football this term.
Kieran has been with the Club since 2004 and started life as a winger, before moving to left back following a loan spell at Norwich. His pace, anticipation and technique marked him out as a special talent from an early age, and he has featured twice for England, against Hungary and France. It can only be a matter of time before the national team come calling again.
