Lukasz Fabianski

While Lukasz may not have played as much as he would have liked last season, he proved a reliable presence whenever he was handed his opportunity to shine.
With Polish compatriot Wojciech Szczesny in inspired form, Lukasz found it difficult to force his way into the first-team reckoning, although he was an ever-present in the Club’s run to the Carling Cup quarter-finals. Unfortunately for the 27-year-old, a knee injury sustained in the Champions League defeat at Olympaicos in December sidelined him for an extended period.

He returned in time to feature against both Aston Villa and Sunderland in the FA Cup and Szczesny admitted he faces fierce competition from Lukasz for the No 1 shirt. “I believe Lukasz is the best No 2 in the country,” he said. “Every time he goes in goal the team is confident he will do a good job, and to have someone like that behind you gives you a lot of motivation to work hard at the training ground.”
Lukasz joined the Club in 2007 after two impressive seasons with Legia Warsaw and has appeared regularly for the Polish national team. Disappointingly Lukasz missed out on representing the co-hosts at Euro 2012 after a knee injury ruled him out of the tournament.
